The Leroy Myers Family Legacy

Over the years, many happy families have lived in Arthurdale.  Leroy Myers, his wife Jean and four children (Richard, Sharon, Beverly and Sandra) moved into BB-4 in 1952.  Two more sons, Robin and Mickey, were born in Arthurdale.  After Jean passed away, he married Lucille Smith Myers, a daughter of original homesteaders Warren and Vivian Smith, and she lives in the home today.

Leroy was a decorated veteran of World War II and a coal miner in Monongalia County.  He and his family were happy about the big changes they experienced in living conditions from the coal areas to Arthurdale and were proud of their beautiful home and property.

Because of their long affiliation with Arthurdale, family members recently decided to set up the Leroy Myers Family Fund to benefit Arthurdale Heritage.

The Myers family was involved with the restoration of Arthurdale and its historic buildings.  Dick was the president of Arthurdale Heritage and put in many hours restoring the Forge and meeting other preservation responsibilities.  He recalled that Mrs. Roosevelt’s return for the dedication of the Presbyterian Church in 1960 was a very impressive occasion.
