Arthurdale Heritage will be closed on Saturday, July 4th, in observance of the holiday.  We will reopen on Sunday, July 5th, with our usual tour hours, 1-5pm.  Have a great holiday and weekend!

Stop by the Craft Shop to pick up special handmade gifts for everyone on your list! Holiday Open House dates are Saturday and Sundays between November 26 and December 18! Saturdays 11 to 3 and Sundays 1 to 5. Or, during the week, the Visitor Center staff is happy to open the shop!

Shop for Holiday Gifts

The Craft Shop will be open for special holiday weekend hours from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on November 27 and 28, December 5 and 6, December 12 and 13, and December 19 and 20.

Arthurdale Christmas cards and pottery, treenware, hand-painted saws and slates, knitted items, West Virginia glass, Marion Eiermann art, Mary Walker candies, notecards, retro aprons, antique jewelry, goat milk soap and so many more unique things are available.

Join our holiday fundraising celebration on Friday and Saturday, December 6 – 7. Beautifully decorated trees, wreaths, ornaments, etc. – some handmade, some vintage, some classic – are offered to you to enhance your home. Thanks to our friends and businesses for the beautiful donations.

Enjoy the reception Friday evening with friends. Return with the kids on Saturday for some family fun!

Find Unique Holiday Gifts during the Arthurdale Festival of Trees

Stained glass ornaments, vintage Christmas ornaments, antiques, handmade soap and more will be available during the The Arthurdale Festival of Trees Christmas Market. This special one-day market will take place on December 1 in the New Deal Homestead Museum in Arthurdale, WV.  The Festival of Trees features tree and wreath auctions and raffles, a wine and cheese evening reception (November 30), family activities, and the Arthurdale Heritage Craft Shop Holiday Open House.

Participating vendors are:

  • Heather Sawyer of The Little Earth Company – all organic bath & body products
  • Darlene Bolyard – Vintage Christmas ornaments and decorations

Want to support us by buying a tree or wreath but can’t make it to the festival?
Since bids are silent, you can call the office during the week or email us at ahi@arthurdaleheritage.com to place a bid. Just tell us the item you are bidding on, contact info, and your bid amount. If you wish, you can donate your item to a Preston County or Morgantown nursing home and we will deliver it for you.

Kick off Your Holiday Season at the Arthurdale Heritage Festival of Trees!

Arthurdale Heritage is inviting the public and local businesses to participate in a two-day holiday fundraising event. The Arthurdale Festival of Trees will feature fully decorated trees and wreaths donated by friends, supporters, and businesses. The trees and wreaths will be raffled just in time for the holiday season.

While you shop the Christmas Craft Market or the Arthurdale Heritage Craft Shop, your children can make fun winter crafts with an elf, enjoy cider, cocoa, other treats, and visit our petting zoo!

Tour the Forge & Administration buildings to bid on our donated, beautifully decorated trees and wreaths. Set up and decoration of the trees will take place November 26-28 in the Arthurdale Forge and Admin buildings. Bidding will start on Friday, November 30 with a Wine and Cheese Opening Reception and tree showcase from 5-8 p.m. The bidding will continue on Family Day – Saturday, December 1 from 12-4 p.m. Refreshments will be offered during the event. Arthurdale Aerial Photograph Makes Perfect Holiday Gift

Arthurdale Heritage is selling framed and unframed aerial photographs of Arthurdale. Taken in October 2011, this photograph makes a wonderful gift for all who are fans of Arthurdale. Framed copies for pick-up are available only in December. Unframed copies can be mailed in a sturdy tube for the same price. An example of the photo is in the office.

Craft Shop Holiday Open House

The Arthurdale Heritage Craft Shop will hold holiday open houses on November 27 from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m., and Dec. 4, 11, and 18 from noon – 4 p.m.

The volunteer-run shop located along Rt. 92 in Preston County features local and West Virginia made gift and home décor items including Marion Eiermann art, pottery, Arthurdale books and holiday cards, jewelry, and West Virginia art glass.

All proceeds benefit the historic preservation efforts for the nation’s first New Deal homestead subsistence community project championed by First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt.
