“Beat the Heat” Barbecue and Chili Cookoff

Missing those summer cookouts? Hungry for char-grilled hamburgers and hot dogs? Join Arthurdale Heritage on Saturday, January 22 for our annual “Beat the Heat” Barbecue. This year we’re adding a Chili Cook-off in which contestants will share their own chili recipe for a chance to win $100! Festivities will begin at 2 p.m. at the Center Hall.

Door Fee – gives you access to taste and vote on the chili: $2.00 at the door for adults, children 5 to 11 – $1.00, kids under 5 – free.

We’re inviting our local chefs to come and share their chili with everyone. Participants can setup from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. Contestants should bring at least 3 quarts of chili in a container, such as a crock pot or pan, and stand with Sterno to keep the food warm. We will provide sampling cups and spoons. The entry fee for the contest is $10.00. If you are a student interested in participating, the entry fee is $5.00. To participate in the chili cook-off, please fill out the online registration form at https://www.arthurdaleheritage.org/beat-the-heat/cookoff-registration/ .

We will also have our delicious char-grilled hamburgers and hot dogs, french fries, sloppy joes, baked beans, homemade desserts and beverages!

Bring the Kids!
A play area with games and toys for young children will be available.
Homemade baked goods will also be on sale. Our cooks are famous for their delicious pies, pepperoni rolls, pecan rolls and cakes!

The Arthurdale Craft Shop will also be open.

All proceeds benefit the historic preservation efforts for the nation’s first New Deal homestead subsistence community project championed by Eleanor Roosevelt.
