Opening of “Interwoven” Exhibit in Elkins, WV

January 24 @ 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm

Our award-winning exhibition, Interwoven: the Fiber Arts Legacy of Arthurdale, will be traveling to Elkins this month and will officially open at the Arts Center on Friday, January 24 from 5-7pm.

Interwoven showcases over eighty exceptional textiles created by Arthurdale homesteaders, beginning in the 1930s as well as modern pieces made by members of the Mountain Weavers Guild. The exhibition also incorporates hands-on elements and demonstrations: learn how to card and spin wool, weave on a rigid-heddle loom, and feel wool, silk, and cotton fibers. “We are honored for the opportunity to feature so many historic textiles which have previously never been displayed,” says Elizabeth Satterfield, curator at Arthurdale Heritage. “The fiber arts are a perfect representation of Appalachian resourcefulness, creating something with your own hands that is both useful and beautiful.”

The exhibition will be open to the public at the Arts Center through March 5.

For more information on this exhibition and when you can visit it, check out the Arts Center’s website here.
