After school STEM Event with Friends of Deckers Creek

January 11 @ 5:00 pm 6:00 pm

Deckers Creek is a scenic watershed that flows through Preston and Monongalia counties. Unfortunately, years of various pollutants like acid mine drainage (AMD) and sewage overflows have heavily degraded segments of the creek. Friends of Deckers Creek works to sustainably manage and clean the watershed through remediation projects, community outreach, and environmental education.  FODC routinely collects field data to track how effective their remediation projects are working, and they rely on sound scientific data from both staff and volunteer scientists.

During this event, kids will learn how to check their own water quality through simple experiments.  Recommended for grads 4-7, but younger kids should be able to participate with a parent’s help.
