New Deal Festival

New Deal Festival is Saturday, July 13!

NDF 2011 - Crowd small

Step back in time to 1933 at the New Deal Festival this year to experience President Franklin Roosevelt’s first year in office and the beginning of the New Deal. Celebrate the unique history of Arthurdale with a day of food, arts & crafts, living history, and more.  Tour the historic community on a hay wagon ride, stop by the antique car and tractor show, and see artisan demonstrations.

Of course, it wouldn’t be a New Deal celebration without a visit from Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt! Chat with the President and First Lady, and don’t miss their address to the crowd at 11:30am.

We have a great line-up of local blues, country, and folk bands this year, including Mahajibee Blues, Triadelphia, Black Horse, and Soup Camel Music.

Speak with children of the original homesteaders at the E-15 Homestead, and brush up on your Arthurdale history. WVU Librarian and HELM Committee member Anna Schein will bring a display on rag rug weaving in Appalachia. The exhibit will be set up in the Service Station, so be sure to stop by.

The festival also features delicious food, children’s activities, a crafts market, horse-drawn wagon rides, and much more!

Save money, buy your tickets in online. Advance tickets are $6 for adults and $4 for children ages 6 – 12. At the gate, general admission is $8 and children ages 6 – 12 are $5. Children under 5 get in for free.

Remember, volunteers attend the Festival for free, so contact the office if you are interested in volunteering to setup, work a shift at the event, or cleanup.
